Get ready for some fresh asphalt – Chicago is kicking off paving season today with Mayor Emanuel announcing an aggressive goal of repaving more miles of city streets than last year.
It was a tough winter on the roads with extreme temperatures creating even more severe potholes than usual – and even causing a bridge beam holding up Lake Shore Drive to bend and split!
The repaving will affect a total 315 miles of major city roadways as well as residential streets — and alleys — the highest amount of miles paved since the polar vortex in 2014.
You can track the progress of paving repairs online or in the mobile app…
The superintendent out here says they will be repaving…”until the snow flies.”
