The CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) will be offering penny rides once again this year on New Year’s Eve and morning, through their annual campaign to keep party-goers safe and off of the roads.
In 2013, there were 991 motor vehicle deaths in the state of Illinois, 389 of which were alcohol related. Although rates of alcohol-related fatalities have significantly dropped since 1990 when the number was 968, alcohol still accounted for 39% of fatal collisions in 2013.
The CTA begins their penny fares at 10 p.m. on Thursday, December 31st, and will conclude at 4 a.m. on Friday, January 1st.
Added service will be available on all elevated train lines and many bus routes. The following is information from transitchicago.org.
