Downtown Triathlon Closures and US Route 30 Detours

Closures for the Triathlon:

-Jackson from Michigan to LSD
-Balbo from Michigan to LSD
-Columbus from Monroe to Roosevelt
-Congress Pkwy from Congress Plaza to Columbus
-LSD from Roosevelt to 18th St (Exit/Entrance ramp lane and two curb lane of Southbound LSD until 18th st exit)
-Roosevelt from Indiana to LSD
-Columbus from Roosevelt to LSD
-18th St from LSD to Museum Campus Dr
-Museum Campus Dr from 18th St to E Waldron

Several downtown road closures remain in effect until Saturday night to accommodate competitors in the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final.

In addition to these closures, a temporary traffic hold will take effect on Lake Shore Drive from 5:22-5:32 p.m. Friday and from 5:20-5:30 p.m. Saturday to allow triathlon participants to cross from the swim exit to the transition area near Buckingham Fountain, OEMC said.

The triathlon will host more than 6,500 athletes from 62 countries, according to OEMC. They will swim laps in Lake Michigan before competing in the running and biking portions of the race through Grant Park and the surrounding area.

Route 30 detour in Plainfield

Traffic will be detoured off U.S. 30 between Renwick Road and 59 in Plainfield as paving work will begin in the ongoing widening of U.S. 30.

According to IDOT, the detour will begin Sept. 18, weather permitting, and the detoured portion of the project will be done by late November.

Construction will start as early as 6 a.m. on some days and possibly lasting until 6 p.m.
