Over 5,000 plants will soon line the North Branch Canal of the Chicago.
It’s an effort by volunteers to build floating gardens.
Chicago nonprofit Urban Rivers in 2017 started with ONE raft in the river – and that proved — it could create a new fish habitat
The goal – to create the “Wild Mile”—a mile-long floating eco-park on the Chicago River.
A year later, the Shedd aquarium got involved with the goal to attract new river life!
Through the Shedd’s Kayak For Conservation, the public can get involved.
This summer the group will nearly triple the size of the floating garden space.
The goal is to line the canal on the east side of Goose island from North Avenue down to Halsted.
