From The Illinois Department of Transportation
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the Northbound lanes carrying I-57 over the Kankakee River, approximately 1.3 miles south of Illinois 17 need repairs. To accomplish these repairs, traffic will be detoured between Exit 308 and Exit 312 through Kankakee along Illinois 17, Illinois 50 and US 45 / 52.
These repairs and detours will take place at night. State Police and local law enforcement will assist the contractor in diverting traffic. This work is weather dependent and if inclement weather sets in, the following dates will be shifted, accordingly.
On Monday, October 5, 2015, ALL Northbound traffic will be diverted onto the detour route at Exit 308 at approximately 7:00 p.m., while repairs to the Northbound I-57 lane across the bridge are made. Traffic will re-enter I-57 at the Exit 312 interchange. It is anticipated that the closed lane will be re-opened and the detour suspended by 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
This work is part of a $19,326,608.92 contract awarded to “D” Construction, Inc. of Coal City, Illinois. The project consists of removal and replacement of the dual bridges carrying I-57 over the Kankakee River. Completion of the project is anticipated in 2016.
